Sasha Waltz is a German choreographer and dancer, renowned for her innovative and boundary-pushing dance shows. She is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary dance, with a career spanning over three decades.

Waltz was born in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1963, and began her dance training at the age of five. After studying at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam, she moved to New York City to work as a freelance dancer. It was there that she met the composer and musician Hans Peter Kuhn, who would become a frequent collaborator on her dance shows.
