Saturday Beat The Blerch 2017 Tickets

On September 16th, runners from all over participated in the annual Saturday Beat The Blerch race, an event inspired by a web comic by Matthew Inman, commonly known as “The Oatmeal”.

Despite the name, the Saturday Beat The Blerch event wasn’t just for runners. Participants could choose from the full marathon, half-marathon, or a 10k run/walk. Additionally, there was plenty of food, drink, and couches available for participants to relax on during the event.

According to the organizers, the inspiration for this unique event came from a concept Inman created in his webcomic series. He described something he referred to as “The Blerch”, which was essentially the voice inside our head that tells us we’re too tired to work out or that we’ll start tomorrow.

By putting on a marathon event that was fun and easygoing, the organizers hoped to encourage people to get up and get moving, while also having a good time.

While sports events can often be grueling and competitive, Saturday Beat The Blerch aimed to be different. Runners were encouraged to take their time on the race courses. Those who weren’t fast enough to Beat The Blerch were still able to enjoy the party-like atmosphere that permeated the event.

Additionally, the event did not focus strictly on the sport itself. There were no timers or clock checking—participants were allowed to move at their own pace and were encouraged to take breaks whenever they needed them.

So while Saturday Beat The Blerch may not be the typical ‘Sports Event’, it is still an important player in the field of athletics. By shifting the focus of the event from winning to simply enjoying the experience, organizers hope to help more people find joy in leading an active lifestyle.
