The Siena College Saints baseball team competes on campus at Siena Field, a state-of-the-art baseball facility that includes a fully enclosed press box, a synthetic turf infield, and ample seating for fans. The team's home field advantage is one of the best in the MAAC, with the natural grass outfield providing an additional edge to any opponent who struggles with background noise or ball visibility.
While it wasn't until 1970 when Siena College officially added baseball as a varsity sport, the program has quickly risen through the ranks since. In recent years, the Saints have consistently been one of the top teams in the conference and regularly compete for the MAAC championship. With head coach Tony Rossi at the helm, the Saints have won eight regular-season conference titles and nine MAAC Tournament championships under his leadership.
In 2015, the Saints made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament after winning the MAAC championship. They faced off against Dallas Baptist University in their first round game, but ultimately fell by a score of 9-2.
In addition to their success on the field, Siena College players have also excelled academically. In 2021, the baseball team was named one of the top academic programs in the country by the American Baseball Coaches Association, receiving the Team Academic Excellence Award.
Several former Saints players have gone on to play professionally, including Matt Gage who was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2014. Other notable alumni include John Lannan, a four-time MLB All-Star, and Blake Thompson, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
