Southern Utah Thunderbirds Baseball Tickets

The Southern Utah Thunderbirds are a collegiate baseball team that represents Southern Utah University in NCAA Division I baseball. The Thunderbirds play in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and have been a member of the conference since 2018. The team has played their home games at the Thunderbird Baseball Field since 2001.

The Thunderbirds have a proud history within college baseball, having produced numerous talented players over the years. One of the most notable former Thunderbirds is current Major League Baseball player Mitch Talbot, who pitched for Southern Utah from 2002-2004 before being drafted by the Houston Astros in 2002. Talbot went on to pitch for several MLB teams, including the Cleveland Indians and the Miami Marlins.

Southern Utah baseball has also seen success in recent years under head coach Jason Hawkins. In 2019, the Thunderbirds set a program record for wins in a season with 27 and finished third in the WAC. The team was poised to build upon that success in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic put an abrupt end to the season.

In terms of recruiting, Southern Utah faces some challenges compared to other NCAA Division I baseball programs. Located in Cedar City, Utah, the Thunderbirds do not benefit from being located in a traditional baseball hotbed like California or Texas. However, the program has found success in recruiting players from across the country, with the current roster featuring players from states such as Nevada, California, Colorado, and Missouri.

Despite these obstacles, the Thunderbirds continue to be a strong program in the WAC and compete against some of the top teams in the nation. They have faced off against powerhouse programs such as Arizona State, Oregon State, and TCU in recent years and proven themselves capable of competing at a high level.
