Stan Lee was a legendary comic book creator who left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment. While he is most famously known for his work in comics, Lee also dabbled in other arenas, including theater.

Lee's first foray into theater was in the 1970s when he wrote a play called "The Conquest of Death." The play was a dark comedy about a man who discovers the secret to eternal life but soon realizes that living forever isn't as great as it seems. Despite decent reviews, the play never quite took off and closed after just a few performances.

In the early 2000s, Lee returned to theater with a musical called "The Amazing Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." The show was plagued by production issues, including injuries to cast members and technical difficulties. Despite the problems, the show became a hit, running for over three years on Broadway.

While Lee didn't pen the script for "Turn Off the Dark," he did contribute lyrics to several songs, including "Rise Above," which was performed by Bono and the Edge. Lee also made a cameo in the show, appearing in a video segment.

Lee's involvement in theater didn't stop there. In 2014, he joined forces with playwright David Henry Hwang to create a Chinese superhero for the stage. The character, named Jin Yong, was inspired by traditional Chinese stories and served as a symbol of cultural exchange between the US and China. Although plans were announced to bring the character to Broadway, the project stalled and never came to fruition.

Despite the mixed success of his theatrical endeavors, Lee remained a passionate advocate for the medium. In an interview with Playbill in 2016, he expressed his love for theater and revealed that he had always wanted to be a part of the industry.

"I always thought theatre was the highest form of entertainment because you're so close to the audience," Lee said. "I always love the idea of being in a play and hearing the applause or the hisses, depending on how good or bad your performance was."

Lee's impact on theater may not have been as great as his impact on comics or film, but it is clear that he saw it as an important art form. His contributions to shows like "Turn Off the Dark" and his efforts to bring Jin Yong to Broadway show that he was dedicated to exploring the different ways that stories can be told.

As the world continues to mourn the loss of Stan Lee, it is worth remembering the many facets of his creative output, including his work in theater. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists across all mediums, proving that storytelling truly knows no bounds.
