When one thinks of Stephen King, the first thing that comes to mind are his spine-chilling novels and their many film adaptations. However, many people may not know that King has also dabbled in the world of theater.

King's first foray into theater came in 1988 with his play "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County." The musical thriller was written by King, with music and lyrics by musician John Mellencamp and direction by renowned theater director Susan V. Booth. The play tells the story of two brothers who are haunted by the ghosts of three dead siblings, and was set to be produced on Broadway in 2000, but ultimately did not come to fruition.

King's second venture into theater came in 2013 with his play "A Face in the Crowd." Co-written with award-winning playwright Stewart O'Nan, the play is an adaptation of the classic 1957 film starring Andy Griffith. The play centers around a drifter who becomes a media sensation thanks to his charismatic personality and manipulative tactics. The play premiered at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. before moving to a limited run at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.

While King may not have as extensive of a theatrical resume as he does in literature and film, his experiments in the world of stage have shown his versatility as a storyteller. His ability to create suspense and horror on the page has translated well to the stage, where audiences can experience the terror up close and personal.
