Born in New York City, Lutvak was raised in a family that loved music. His father was a jazz pianist, while his mother was a singer. For Lutvak, music seemed like a natural path to follow, and he began studying classical piano at an early age.
Lutvak attended Harvard University, where he studied music theory and composition. After graduating, he began working as a composer and lyricist, creating songs for both stage productions and television shows.
