The Temple Owls women's basketball program has a rich history and tradition of success. The team has consistently been a contender in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) since joining in 2013, and has made 16 NCAA tournament appearances in its history.

Temple's women's basketball history dates back to 1974, when the team was first formed as a club team. In 1980, the Owls became an official varsity sport and have been competitive ever since.
