The Millard family has had a long and rich history in American theater. From Vaudeville to Broadway, the Millards have made their mark on the world of entertainment through decades of hard work, dedication, and talent.

Frederick and Sophia Millard were the patriarchs of the Millard family. They were both born in England but immigrated to the United States in the late 1800s. Frederick worked as a scene painter for various theaters in New York City, while Sophia was an actress who performed under the stage name of Louise Raymond.

Their son, Marc Klaw, became a prominent theatrical producer and manager. He partnered with A. L. Erlanger to form the powerhouse producing team of Klaw & Erlanger. Together, they produced a number of hit shows during the early 1900s, including "Ben-Hur" and "The Wizard of Oz."

Marc's brother, Abraham Lincoln "Abe" Erlanger, also had a successful career in theater. He managed several theaters in New York City, including the famous Palace Theatre. Abe was known for his innovative approaches to marketing and promoting shows, such as creating elaborate displays in store windows to draw in crowds.

Another member of the Millard family, Walter Hampden, became a renowned actor and theater director. He appeared in numerous productions on Broadway, including "Hamlet" and "Romeo and Juliet." Hampden also directed many plays, including the original production of "Arsenic and Old Lace."

In addition to these notable members, the Millard family included many other individuals who contributed to the world of theater. Some were actors, like Marc's daughter, Margaret, and her husband, George M. Cohan Jr. Others were behind-the-scenes workers, such as Fred Knoth, who was a stage carpenter and electrician.

Throughout their careers, the Millards helped to shape the landscape of American theater. Their work not only entertained audiences but also had a lasting impact on the industry as a whole. Today, their legacy lives on through the many performances and productions that continue to inspire and delight theatergoers around the world.
