Since its first year in 2008, Tri for a Cure has continued to grow and inspire communities across Maine and beyond. What started as a small event has become one of the most significant fundraisers for the Maine Cancer Foundation, raising over $23 million dollars in its 10-year history.
Tri for a Cure attracts athletes of all ages, genders, and fitness levels who are committed to completing a 1/3 mile swim, 15-mile bike ride, and 3-mile run/walk, while also strengthening their support of those affected by cancer through fundraising.
This event is unique as it offers its participant’s opportunities to create and join teams of friends, co-workers, and family to encourage and share the experience together, spurring them on to achieving personal goals while making an incredibly positive change in the fight against cancer.
Over the past decade, Tri for a Cure has transformed from a relatively small-scale triathlon into a hugely successful movement. These women have worked hard to inspire their peers not only to physically train and accomplish these distances but also to rise up against cancer. The passion and determination to fight for their loved ones has been the driving force behind this annual event every summer.
Beyond just the competitors, the Tri for a Cure Decade Celebration is an inspiring reminder to sports enthusiasts and supporters that sport can be about more than physical ability and competition. Within this incredible event, we’ve seen an exemplification of sportspower to bring people together for a common purpose, to inspire individuals to participate in creating awareness and making significant changes for our fellow human beings.
