UFC 223 has come and gone, and it was yet another incredibly exciting event within the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). The card was jam-packed with some of the biggest names in the sport, and fans were treated to some truly memorable fights.

One of the most anticipated bouts on the card was the lightweight championship fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Al Iaquinta. There was a lot of drama leading up to this fight, as it was originally supposed to be Nurmagomedov versus Tony Ferguson. However, Ferguson had to pull out due to injury, which caused a chain reaction of events that ultimately resulted in Iaquinta stepping up on short notice to take on the undefeated Nurmagomedov.

Despite being a heavy underdog, Iaquinta put up a valiant effort against the dominant Nurmagomedov. However, in the end, Nurmagomedov’s wrestling skills proved to be too much for Iaquinta to handle, and he won the fight via unanimous decision to become the new UFC lightweight champion.

Another highlight of the night was the co-main event between strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. These two women had previously fought at UFC 217, where Namajunas shocked the world by knocking out Jedrzejczyk to win the title. This time around, Jedrzejczyk was looking for redemption, but Namajunas once again came out on top, winning the fight via unanimous decision in a closely contested battle.

In addition to these two marquee matchups, there were several other exciting fights throughout the UFC 223 card. Renato Moicano submitted Calvin Kattar in the first round of their featherweight bout, while Zabit Magomedsharipov scored a dominant victory over Kyle Bochniak in another featherweight matchup. In the welterweight division, Brian Ortega knocked out Frankie Edgar with a brutal uppercut to earn himself a shot at featherweight champion Max Holloway.

Of course, no discussion of UFC 223 would be complete without mentioning the drama that unfolded in the lead-up to the event. Conor McGregor, who had been stripped of the lightweight championship due to inactivity, showed up to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and caused chaos by attacking a bus full of fighters, including Nurmagomedov. The incident resulted in several fighters being injured, and McGregor was eventually arrested and charged with assault and criminal mischief.

Despite the chaos surrounding McGregor’s actions, UFC 223 ultimately delivered on its promise to provide fans with an exciting night of fights. From Nurmagomedov’s dominant performance to Namajunas’ impressive title defense, there were plenty of moments that will stand out in the minds of MMA fans for years to come.
