In 1981, UTSA formed its baseball program and joined NCAA Division II. The team found early success under head coach Perry Foust. In 1991, UTSA moved up to Division I and joined the Southland Conference. Since then, UTSA has been a dominant force in the conference. UTSA Baseball has made six appearances in the NCAA Tournament. In 1994 and 2005, they won the Southland Conference Tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. They also earned at-large bids to the tournament in 1998, 2013, 2017, and 2021. In 2021, UTSA reached the Regional Finals for the first time in school history. Despite losing to top-seeded Texas, UTSA Baseball had a historic season and will look to build on their success in the future.

Several UTSA Baseball players have been drafted by Major League Baseball (MLB) teams. The most notable player is former pitcher Jordan Kipper, who was selected in the ninth round by the Los Angeles Angels in 2014. Other notable players include infielder Marcus Rivas and outfielder Tony Ramirez, who were both selected in the MLB draft in 2021.
