Westminster College, located in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, has a rich football history that dates back to the early 1900s. The Westminster Titans have been a prominent football program in the NCAA Division III level and have sent numerous players on to play at the professional level.

While Westminster College may not be a household name when it comes to college football, they have produced several notable players over the years including former Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner and Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe.

The Westminster Titans have had success on the field as well, finishing with an overall record of 485-391-35 since their first recorded season in 1891. They have won more than 20 conference championships and made several appearances in the NCAA playoffs.

In recent years, a few Division III players from smaller schools like Westminster have made significant contributions in college football. One example is Minnesota State’s Adam Thielen, who was signed by the Vikings after going undrafted out of Mankato State and has become one of the top wide receivers in the NFL.

Westminster College Head Coach Scott Benzel knows that the NFL is always looking for talent, regardless of where it comes from. “There are a lot of guys that come out of Division III who have gone on to play in the NFL,” Benzel said.

Benzel also recognizes the importance of building a strong culture within the program. “We always talk about building men of character, not just football players. We want our guys to be good husbands, good fathers, and good contributors to society,” he said.

The coaching staff at Westminster College makes sure that their players are prepared both physically and mentally to compete at the next level. The Titans have a rigorous training program that includes strength and conditioning, film study, and game-planning.

“We’re trying to teach them how to think about the game, how to prepare for the game, and how to analyze situations,” Benzel said.

While Division III football may not receive the same level of attention as some of the larger schools, it still offers a chance for talented players to showcase their skills and potentially play at the next level. Westminster College is one program that has consistently produced great players who have gone on to make an impact in college and in the NFL.

As the Titans continue to build their program and develop talented players, there’s no doubt that they will continue to be a force on the football field for years to come.
