Although Wheaton College is a small liberal arts college located in the suburbs of Chicago, its athletics program has a long history of success. The Thunder have won numerous conference championships and made multiple appearances in national tournaments.
In recent years, the Wheaton College women’s soccer team has been particularly successful. The team has won the CCIW championship four times since 2013 and has advanced to the NCAA tournament five times during that span. In 2016, the team made it all the way to the NCAA Division III national championship game but ultimately lost to Washington University in St. Louis.
The Wheaton College men’s basketball team has also had recent success, winning the CCIW championship in both 2016 and 2017. During the 2016-17 season, the team went 26-4 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
Aside from their successes on the field and courts, the Wheaton College Thunder also place a strong emphasis on academic achievement and community service. The athletics program consistently produces scholar-athletes who excel not only in sports but also in the classroom. Student-athletes are also encouraged to participate in service projects and give back to the community.
Overall, the Wheaton College Thunder athletics program embodies the values of dedication, hard work, and service. With a diverse range of sports offerings and numerous successes under their belt, the Thunder continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of collegiate sports.
