WSOU, Seton Hall University's radio station, celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special concert event on August 16, 2016, at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. The show featured performances by death metal legends Cannibal Corpse, thrash metal titans Testament, and rising stars Vile Vindiction.

The WSOU 30th Anniversary Show exemplified the power of concerts to bring people together--in this case, metalheads from New Jersey and beyond. Fans freely mixed and mingled, sporting band t-shirts and sharing their love for heavy music. The varied lineup appealed to different subsets of the audience while also introducing listeners to new bands.

Cannibal Corpse, long-known for their graphic lyrics and brutal sound, delivered a blistering set featuring tracks from their latest album, "Red Before Black," as well as classics like "Hammer Smashed Face" and "Make Them Suffer." Lead singer George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher's signature neck-wrecking headbangs and impressive growls kept the crowd engaged and energized.

Testament, veterans of the Bay Area thrash scene, brought their own brand of intensity to the stage. Frontman Chuck Billy's commanding vocals and guitarist Alex Skolnick's fiery solos demonstrated why the band has endured since the 1980s. Songs like "Over The Wall" and "Practice What You Preach" had fans banging their heads and chanting along.

Vile Vindiction, hailing from the UK, opened the show with a brief but powerful performance. The young band's mix of classic thrash with modern sensibilities impressed early arrivals and garnered new fans. Their tight musicianship and passionate energy bode well for their future success.

The WSOU 30th Anniversary Show not only celebrated the radio station's legacy but also showcased the enduring appeal of live music. Concerts offer a unique experience for fans to connect with their favorite artists and with each other. The sense of community created by concerts is undeniable--and metal shows, in particular, often foster a strong sense of camaraderie among attendees.

As the WSOU 30th Anniversary Show proved, concerts remain a vital part of the music landscape. Whether it's a small club show or a massive festival, live music has the power to bring people together and create unforgettable memories. Here's to another 30 years of WSOU and countless more concerts!
