Bragging Rights was a pay-per-view event held by WWE from 2009 to 2010. The concept of this event was to showcase bragging rights between the Raw and SmackDown brands in various matches, usually as a means of proving which brand was superior.
The first Bragging Rights event was held on October 25th, 2009, at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The main event of this show saw Team SmackDown (Chris Jericho, Kane, Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler, Eric Escobar, and Big Show) take on Team Raw (D-Generation X, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, and Shawn Michaels) in a traditional elimination match. This match was won by Team SmackDown after Big Show turned on his teammates and helped Jericho pick up the victory.
The second and final Bragging Rights event was held on October 24th, 2010, at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The main event of this show was another traditional elimination match, this time featuring the teams of Raw (The Miz, R-Truth, John Morrison, Santino Marella, Sheamus, and CM Punk) and SmackDown (Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Edge, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, and Tyler Reks). This match ended in a tie when John Cena interfered and attacked Wade Barrett, causing both teams to be disqualified.
Despite only being held for two years, Bragging Rights was seen as a significant event by many WWE fans. It was a unique opportunity to see wrestlers from different brands face off against each other, and it also allowed for some unexpected matchups that might not have happened otherwise.
However, after just two years, WWE decided to discontinue Bragging Rights in favor of other events. While the idea of showcasing brand supremacy lives on in events like Survivor Series, Bragging Rights will always hold a special place in the hearts of WWE fans who enjoyed seeing their favorite superstars compete in this unique event.
