The Baltimore Catholic League Tournament, commonly referred to as BCL, is an annual basketball tournament featuring some of the top Catholic high school basketball teams in the Baltimore area. It is considered one of the most competitive high school basketball tournaments in the country.

The BCL was inaugurated in 1971 and since then has been bringing together some of the best talent from Catholic high schools in the Baltimore region. The tournament features eight teams that compete over a four-day span with games held at various high schools throughout the city.

Participating teams include Archbishop Spalding High School, Archbishop Curley High School, Calvert Hall College High School, John Carroll School, Loyola Blakefield, Mount Carmel High School, St. Frances Academy, and St. Maria Goretti High School.

The tournament has a rich history of producing top-level players who have gone on to play college basketball and even in the NBA. Notable players who have participated in the tournament include Mark Karcher, Keith Booth, Juan Dixon, and Rudy Gay just to name a few.

The games are known for their intensity, with each game being a closely contested battle. The winner of the tournament receives the prestigious Alhambra Trophy, named after the famous Muslim palace in Andalusia, Spain, which was once used by Spanish kings as a place for relaxation.

Aside from its importance to high school basketball in the region, the BCL also serves as a unifying force for the Catholic community. Many of the games feature a strong turnout from fans and alumni of the participating schools, with each game offering a unique and electric atmosphere.

Overall, the Baltimore Catholic League Tournament holds a special place in both the basketball and religious communities in Baltimore. As one of the most prestigious high school basketball tournaments in the country, it continues to produce top-level talent while also serving as a source of community pride and unity.
