The ThunderWolves compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), which is widely regarded as one of the toughest Division II conferences in the country. The RMAC often has multiple teams ranked in the national polls and consistently sends teams to the NCAA Division II tournament.
In recent years, CSU-Pueblo has been a competitive program within the RMAC. They have made the tournament four times since 2014 and reached the Sweet 16 in 2016. Additionally, they have produced several All-Conference players and even had one player (Nelson Kahler) named an All-American last season.
Despite their success, CSU-Pueblo still faces challenges within the college basketball landscape. Attendance at games can be low, and the program struggles to gain recognition outside of the region.
However, the ThunderWolves continue to work hard to build their program and represent the university and community with pride. The team also serves as an important developmental opportunity for its players, many of whom hope to make it to the professional level one day.
