In 2008, the Miners joined the Premier Basketball League (PBL) and enjoyed a much-improved season. They finished fourth in the Eastern Division with a 14-16 record but missed out on the playoffs. The following year saw further progress, as the team managed to secure a playoff spot for the first time in its short history. However, they were unable to get past the second round, losing to the Rochester Razorsharks.
The East Kentucky Miners continued to compete in the PBL until 2011 when they opted to become independent and play exhibition games against professional teams from around the country. This move allowed the team to maintain its existence while exploring new opportunities. In 2012, the Miners joined the Central Basketball Association (CBA), where they competed for three seasons before joining the newly-formed North American Basketball League (NABL).
The NABL is a semi-professional league that aims to provide players with a platform to showcase their skills and develop their careers. The East Kentucky Miners have been an active member of the NABL since its inception in 2016 and have participated in two seasons to date.
Despite not yet winning any major titles or championships, the East Kentucky Miners have established themselves as a respected team within the basketball community.
