Basketball is one of the most popular sports at colleges and universities, and the Mid-South Conference boasts some of the top programs in the country. Currently, there are ten teams that compete in the men's basketball division and ten teams in the women's division.

Other strong programs include Lindsey Wilson College, Life University, and Shawnee State University.
