The FHL was founded in 2010 as a professional minor league for players with aspirations of playing at higher levels. The league consisted of teams from small cities in the Northeast and Midwest of the United States and Ontario, Canada.
The Williamsport Outlaws were a relatively new team to the FHL, joining the league for the 2012-2013 season. They played their home games at the Airmen Pond at Bowman Field, an outdoor stadium primarily used for baseball, which made the Outlaws unique among hockey teams.
Despite not having much history under their belt, the Williamsport Outlaws had a strong inaugural season in the FHL, finishing second in the regular season standings with a record of 30 wins, 11 losses, and 2 overtime losses. They ultimately reached the FHL playoff finals, but lost to the Dayton Demonz.
In their second season, however, things did not go as well for the Outlaws. The team struggled to find consistency on the ice, and they finished seventh in the standings with a record of 18 wins, 29 losses, and 5 overtime losses. Attendance also dropped significantly from the previous season, leading to financial struggles for the team's ownership.
Ultimately, the Williamsport Outlaws folded after just two seasons in the FHL, citing financial reasons as the main factor. While the team may not have had a long-lasting impact on the FHL, their time in the league showcased the potential for smaller communities to support minor league hockey and provided exciting action on the ice for local fans.
Today, the city of Williamsport remains without a professional hockey team, but the legacy of the Outlaws lives on in the memories of hockey fans in the area.
