The basketball scene in Bordeaux is centered around the local team, Union Bordeaux Basket (UBB). UBB was founded in 1997 and currently competes in the French top-tier league, LNB Pro A. The team plays their home games at the Salle Jean-Dauger arena, which can hold up to 2,500 spectators.
Despite only being established relatively recently, UBB has already made its mark on the national basketball scene. In 2004-05, the team won the championship of the second-tier Pro B league and earned promotion to the top-tier Pro A for the first time.
