John Keister is undoubtedly one of the most talented comedians and TV personalities in Washington State, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. He has brought smiles, laughter, and joy to millions of people through his stand-up comedy shows, TV programs, radio broadcasts, and other artistic works over the years.

Born on October 15, 1952, in Seattle, WA, Keister grew up in a creative, supportive, and entertaining environment that influenced his later career trajectory significantly. His father was a renowned stage actor and director, while his mother was a gifted musician and singer. As a young man, Keister inherited his parents' artistic talents and passion for theater, music, and comedy.

Keister began his comedy career in the early 1980s when he co-founded a local sketch comedy troupe called The Comedy Underground with several fellow comedians. The group performed at various venues across Seattle and the Puget Sound area, gaining popularity and acclaim among the audiences. It was during this period that Keister honed his comedic timing, versatility, and observational skills that would become his signature style.

In 1984, Keister got his big break when he was cast as the host and head writer of a satirical TV show called Almost Live! The program, which aired on KING-TV in Seattle, was a huge hit among viewers of all ages and backgrounds, making Keister a household name in the region. Almost Live! showcased Keister's wit, humor, and charisma as he delivered hilarious sketches, monologues, and interviews that poked fun at local and national news, politics, culture, and sports.

During his 15-year tenure on Almost Live!, Keister became synonymous with Seattle comedy and pop culture, creating iconic characters such as Billy Kwan, The Lame List Guy, and The Uncle Fran Show. He also inspired and mentored many upcoming comedians who would go on to find success in the industry, including Joel McHale, who later hosted The Soup and starred in Community.

After Almost Live! ended its run in 1999, Keister continued to work on various comedy projects, both locally and nationally. He hosted a late-night talk show called The John Report with Bob online, appeared on several TV shows such as Northern Exposure and Frasier, and wrote, produced, and directed numerous comedy films and videos. In 2015, he even revived Almost Live! in a live reunion show that sold out within hours.

Throughout his career, Keister has been recognized for his contributions to the world of comedy and entertainment. He has won multiple Emmy awards for his writing, acting, and hosting work, as well as the Washington State Governor's Arts Award for his excellence in the arts. He has also helped raise millions of dollars for charities and causes through his comedic efforts, including Seattle Children's Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Today, John Keister remains a beloved and influential figure in the comedy scene, inspiring and entertaining audiences with his sharp wit, infectious humor, and enduring legacy. Whether delivering a stand-up set, emceeing an event, or doing a cameo in a movie, he continues to bring laughter and joy to those around him, proving that comedy truly is the best medicine.
