The San Antonio Stars are a professional women's basketball team that represents San Antonio, Texas in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Established in 1997 as part of the WNBA's inaugural season, the San Antonio Stars, formerly known as the Utah Starzz, relocated to San Antonio in 2003. Since then, the team has been a mainstay in the league and has enjoyed success both on and off the court.

On the court, the Stars have experienced their fair share of ups and downs throughout their history in the WNBA. The team has qualified for the playoffs seven times, including four consecutive seasons from 2008-2011. However, they've also had their struggles, missing out on postseason play eight times in their history.

Despite this, the Stars have produced some notable players over the years. Becky Hammon, one of the most well-known and respected figures in women's basketball, played for the Stars from 2007-2014 before retiring from the game. She was a six-time All-Star with the team and became the first full-time female assistant coach in NBA history with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014.

Other notable San Antonio Stars players include Sophia Young-Malcolm, who won two championships with the team in 2007 and 2009, and Danielle Robinson, who was named an All-Star in 2013 and 2014.

Off the court, the San Antonio Stars have been active in the community, promoting youth basketball and encouraging young girls to get involved in the sport. The team has also partnered with various organizations to support causes such as breast cancer awareness and veterans' services.

However, despite their contributions to the WNBA and the San Antonio community, the future of the Stars is currently uncertain. In 2017, the team's ownership group announced that they were selling the franchise, which has yet to find a new owner. As a result, the team did not play during the 2018 WNBA season.

The future of the San Antonio Stars remains uncertain as of now. However, if and when they do return to the court, there's no doubt that they'll continue to have an impact in the WNBA and beyond.
